Ananova has reported that Morrissey is planning to retire from the music scene next year after hinting to fans his current world tour could be his last. His decision would be the result of the disappointing sales of his latest and first album in four years, "You Are The Quarry". Still according to Ananova the word is, he'll release his final single early next year. In a reaction Morrissey's spokesperson said: "I honestly don't know. The fans probably know more than we do." But before leaving us all, you can expect a new single "I have forgiven Jesus" on December 13. The track will be the singer’s fourth single this year and will come backed by the b-sides "Slum Mums" and "The Public Image". A recording of "No One Can Hold A Candle To You" will be available with the 7" and mini-CD. In related news, Johnny Marr confirmed to Side-Line that a Smiths musical is planned. Both Morrissey and Johnny Marr have given their approval to the musical about the career of their old band, The Smiths. Written by Andrew Wale and Perrin Manzer Allen, creators of Jacques Brel's "Anonymous Society", the still untitled musical will open at London's Lyric Hammersmith theatre next July. It will feature 20 Smiths songs arranged for a string quartet, with a percussive lute accompaniment, and sung live by a cast of six. In the meantime, below you can check the reactions of the Morrissey fans at the excellent fansite Morrissey-Solo.
